Tanzania: Lake Cement hopes to start construction of Bagamoyo plant soon

A senior official at Lake Cement Ltd has confirmed that the company still plans to establish a US$150m cement plant in Chalinxe-Tarwanda, Bagamoyo, Tanzania. Lake Cement Ltd announced it will invest US$150m in a new cement plant in Bagamoyo, Pwani Region, Tanzania, with a production capacity of 1.4Mta. Construction is due to commence mid-2017, with completion expected to take approximately two years. The plant will use limestone sourced from the project area. Tanzania: Banco Products to sell stake in Lake Cement

Baroda-based Banco Products India Ltd, along with its subsidiaries, has decided to sell its Tanzania-based cement unit Lake Cement Ltd for US$17.68m, according to a stock market disclosure. Banco Products acquired a 51 per cent equity stake in the 0.5Mta Lake Cement in July 2010. The name of the buyer has not been disclosed. Cement production costs in Tanzania are expected to decline in the near future due to falling energy costs and improved supply.
